Observation Log · Entry Open
This is one page of the INCODER observer report. Filing this time is Observer 2020, who tends to watch the increasingly blurry line between people and machines — specifically, whose face a machine borrows when it wants to be liked.
Today's record starts with a short weekend trip. In early August, OpenAI ran its first-ever influencer brand trip, called "Summer Club," flying a group of creators to a luxury resort in the Hudson Valley called Wildflower Farms — rooms running $1,500 to $3,100 a night. Someone built a website, someone took a beekeeping workshop, and everything on camera looked light, pastoral, unhurried.
Within 72 hours, a different tone showed up under the same posts. This record wants to sit inside the act of borrowing a face itself — when a company that builds data centers needs a face people already trust in order to be trusted, who actually carries the risk in that transaction?
